Recently, I watched Project Hail Mary (2026), directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and starring Ryan Gosling. Since I have already watched most of Gosling's films, I was excited to see him lead this live-action space drama, and he was brilliant. Having loved The Martian (2015), I was curious to see if this adaptation could capture that same spirit of solo-scientific survival, and it certainly delivered.

Talking about Project Hail Mary: it follows an astronaut who wakes up with amnesia on a desperate, last-chance mission to save humanity from a solar extinction threat. The setup is beautifully simple and human-centric, focusing on his process of piecing together his memory and using standard scientific principles to solve one impossible problem after another.

What makes this film stand out from typical CGI-filled space thrillers is how it focuses on the charm of scientific trial-and-error rather than mindless explosions. The camera work and visual storytelling immerse you in the claustrophobic interior of the ship, making the complex physics and space mechanics feel grounded, tangible, and exciting.

The film explores our instinct for survival, the nature of friendship in the face of the unknown, and the power of collaborative problem-solving. It is a smart film that might not appeal to people who prefer standard, fast-paced space battles. But if you enjoy watching science save the day, I highly recommend checking it out.
